Friday 1st May saw the Harrogate College campus transformed into a 5k course as part of the Event Organisation module for the Level 3 BTEC Sport students.
The group worked well and enthusiastically as a team, using skills they learned throughout the year to plan, organise and host an event with a real life application. They chose to create a 5k challenge for people to run, walk or crawl if they chose all in support of St Michael’s Hospice.
Each individual student had an important role to play, from the registration process, to marshalling and pace setting.
Student’s organised sponsorship from Nuffield Health, who provided unique and useful flat-pack water bottles to be used for sporting activities, along with FRANK NUTRITION who provided healthy nutrition bars in a variety of flavours.
Course Tutor Jonathan Proctor was pleased with how the event had gone and sees progression for the future.
“This year’s event has seen a steady progression from where we were this time last year. Perhaps in 2016, we can involve local businesses to have stalls along the route and open it up to a larger audience.”
Well done to everyone who took part not only by running, walking or planning the event, but also those who encouraged others to cross the finish line.
