‘Art makes children powerful’- Art & Design students visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park

The Foundation Diploma in Art & Design students visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park as part of their induction programme on Friday 15th September 2015.

They explored the park and outdoor sculptures, including a powerful cascade of poppies, part of the Tower of London display which is touring the country.

They also saw an exhibition of political art by Bob & Roberta Smith, whose main slogan is ‘Art makes children powerful’, and the paper cutouts of Rob Ryan. They were also able to look at the outstanding art and craft work, including some fabulous jewellery, in the gift shop. This was invaluable as they consider how they might sell their work in the future.

The weather was lovely, and the rain held off all day. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and gain something from the visit, and many have said that they will return when the new exhibition opens.
