Jordan Field is currently undertaking an Electrical Apprenticeship with Dunnington Electricals, based in Ripley, North Yorkshire. Jordan left Sixth Form after finding it wasn’t for him and went into the world of work for six years before deciding to return to education at the age of 23.
“At school, I did a work placement with an electrician and I really enjoyed it. My Dad is also a tradesman and persuaded me that having a trade or a skill is the way forward, so I decided I would look for an Apprenticeship.”
Jordan struggled to find an Apprenticeship so began on a Traineeship with Harrogate College, so he could get started straight away and within two months had been placed with Dunnington Electricals on a three year Apprenticeship.
“I was thrilled to be accepted onto the Apprenticeship with Dunnington Electricals, they wanted a more mature student which I am, so it was right place right time really! They reckon they can make an electrician out of me!”
Dunnington Electricals has been sub contracted by Halls Construction Group, who is working on the Harrogate College Campus Redevelopment Project, to undertake the electrical installations. Jordan has also been working on the campus project, learning hands on, how to wire up the temporary cabins for the builders and stripping old wiring out of the now empty floors of A Block.
“I really enjoy learning on the job and also earning whilst I’m learning. It’s also great to be working on the Harrogate College campus project, behind the scenes as it were!”
“Harrogate College is nearby and convenient for me to get to and I know I’ll leave in three years fully qualified to go into the industry.”
Nick Wraith, Director of Dunnington Electricals said:
“We are delighted to have Jordan on board with us, he is a dedicated team player and hardworking apprentice who always strives to be the best he can and leaves no stone unturned in his quest to become a fully qualified Electrician. Jordan is now working on the Harrogate College redevelopment; as a Company we saw this as an ideal opportunity to give him as much involvement with the project as it’s his place of study and now his place of work.
The past and present has seen Dunnington Electricals give several opportunities to Local apprentices who attend Harrogate College. Together working in partnership, we help achieve their goals of becoming fully qualified Electricians. We are pleased to say those very same apprentices are still employed by Dunnington Electricals today and we are sure our strong working relationship with Harrogate College will remain so that we can continue to employ the highest calibre of apprentices for future years to come.”
Harrogate College is currently undergoing a £6m campus redevelopment that will see brand new industry standard facilities opening for September 2016.
