A day in the life of an event organiser for Harrogate Business students

Students studying on BTEC Level 3 Business were given an in depth talk and tour of what it’s like to work as an event organiser for the Harrogate International Centre.

The group of students arrived at the HIC, which has 13,700 square metres of event space, on Monday 22 February to meet with Robert, Gourmet Services and Beverage Manager, and Beth, Assistant Event Manager to begin their private tour of the event centre.

The managers explained the important skills needed to work in the industry and about the vast amount of rules and regulations they must adhere to during every event held at the Harrogate International Centre. They were extremely knowledgeable which was fantastic as the students were armed with questions, from what are the main skills needed to be an event organiser to asking about the health and safety protocol. The group also enjoyed finding out about the strong relationships that the event managers must have with their clients in order to be able to see the event through from start to finish.

On the tour of the facilities, the students were given a behind the scenes view of the exhibition centre, having to use their imaginations to picture what the halls would look like in use.

“The business students arrived promptly and were great ambassadors for the college on the trip to the Harrogate International Centre. They really enjoyed having a sneak peak into what it’s like working in the event industry and Robert and Beth were extremely knowledgeable and interesting to listen to.” – Carol Garland, Curriculum Leader.
