The group were greeted by two of the event managers for the 12,500 capacity venue and were ushered into the First Direct private box, with a perfect view of the arena, where they asked questions to help with their current event organisation task. They then headed down into the stalls and were talked through different configurations that they would be using at events such as The X Factor tour, Mariah Carey and also how they would accommodate dinners and boxing matches.
Kerryn and Darren were extremely welcoming and knowledgeable and gave the student an in depth view of what life is like working at such a large venue and how it’s essentially an empty shell where promoters and artists bring all of their much needed equipment with them.
“On event days, we will need to work at least 18 hour days to ensure the artists, promoters and teams are all happy and have everything they need. It’s extremely tiring but also very rewarding when you see 12,500 people having a good time!” – Kerryn, event manager.
“It’s great to see such an astonishing venue from behind the scenes as it provides the students such an in depth view of the sheer amount of work that is needed to put an arena event together.”- Carol Garland, course tutor.
