Harrogate Art students set to take on live project with Fountains Abbey

The year 2 Extended Diploma Art & Design students at Harrogate College enjoyed a trip to Fountains Abbey and the Water Gardens in order to be briefed on a live project that arises annually.

The students have been asked to develop ideas for items that could be sold in the shop and that convey the idea of ‘Spirit of Place’. The students were allowed to choose whether to focus on the Abbey itself or the Water Gardens and to produce design ideas to present to Hayley Donaldson and two other members of staff on the Thursday 10th November.

The students gave an individual presentation on their ideas and received feedback and further direction from the staff. Hayley was excited about the diverse range of ideas that the students proposed and is looking forward to the final exhibition where prototypes of the marketing items will be on display at Fountains Abbey.

These items will be in situ for members of the public, as well as Fountains Abbey staff to vote for their favourite idea for a new range to be sold at the shop.
