On the evening of Wednesday 7th December, after a long hard-fought season, Harrogate College six-a-side football team, made up of staff, students, ex-students, family and friends competed in the semi-finals and final of the Football Mundial corporate league cup at Harrogate Town AFC’s CNG Stadium.

Front row: Brunno Wray (Ex Sport Student, currently working at the Holiday Inn F/T), Brandan Trower (Matt’s brother), Matt Trower (Sport tutor), and Adam Thompson (current 2nd year sports student)
After coming runner’s up in the league, Harrogate College wanted to go one better in the cup, and managing to win their semi-final 3-0 against tough opposition in a brutal match, the final beckoned. They were to face the league winners, Henderson Insurance Brokers, who they had competed against all season for the league title.
Harrogate College started well, and had the better of the first 10 minutes of a 30-minute final but trailed 2-1 at half time with Adam Thompson scoring Harrogate College’s first. A couple of early exchanges in the second half, and the score was 3-2 with Andy Reah bagging College’s second. With Harrogate College pushing on to get the equaliser to take it to sudden death penalties, Henderson’s took advantage and finished the game 4-2 winners on a night of high drama. Harrogate College were worthy runner-ups, and go again for the next season before Christmas.
