The first themed evening of 2017 at Harrogate’s Bistro on the Park was a celebration of Chinese cooking with Chinese Banquet Night on Thursday 12th January.
The Bistro was fully booked with people from Hornbeam Park, parents of catering students and a very large party of staff who were celebrating a colleague’s big 50th birthday! The atmosphere was buzzing and the students were on top form, seating and serving people in a timely fashion.
The guests started with an appetiser of traditional chicken and sweet corn soup with crispy homemade prawn crackers, followed by a start platter which showcased a hoisin duck wrap, vegetable spring roll and a seared scallop with chives.
For the main course, guests were invited to try a selection of Chinese dishes, chosen by catering students Sylvia and Shaun, which included braised pork belly with plums, Sichuan style prawns, five spiced chicken, egg fried rice and vegetable Dan Dan noodles.
The meal was topped off with a banana fritter served with lychee jelly and mandarin sorbet.
“The food was absolutely superb, and the service was as good as any restaurant. I was really impressed.” – Emilio Marshall, guest.
Don’t worry if you missed this event, the next themed evening will be Burns Night on Thursday 26th January. To book your table and support our Catering and Hospitality students, please email Bistro@Harrogate.ac.uk
