Sixth form students taste Art and Design at Harrogate College

Following the £6m redevelopment at Harrogate College in 2016, which saw a brand new two floor Art and Design department created with facilities that are second to none, tutors have been forming strong links with local schools and sixth forms, offering ‘taster’ sessions to any students who may be interested in the arts.

Abbey Grange Academy, from Leeds visited Johnathan Leng and Annabel Smith at Harrogate College, last week, to take a tour of the new facilities and to also get stuck in with creative workshops, which included fashion paper creations and studio and dark room photography.

17 students from the Leeds based sixth form academy attended on Thursday 2nd February to explore their options for after they’ve completed their A Levels, which includes studying Higher Education, with the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and the HNC Art and Design in Harrogate. Students were also given the opportunity to bulk up their portfolios, with short courses available at Harrogate College, which is a vital way of showcasing work, when applying to University.

“These sessions offer students in the local area, an opportunity to explore their interest for post A Levels, in more detail and in a fun way!” – Johnathan Leng, Photography tutor at Harrogate College.

“Thank you to the staff at Harrogate College for an amazing day.  The students were absolutely buzzing in the minibus on the way home and they were talking about it today in class!” – Paul McGinty, Abbey Grange teacher
