Harrogate College opened the doors to local and regional employers for Careers Fest 2017 on Thursday 16th February; an event organised by the Information, Advice and Guidance team to help students explore their career options for their futures.
A wide variety of businesses and services were represented, from McDonalds, NHS and Rudding Park Hotel to the British Army, Harrogate Town AFC and Belzona. Over 100 enthusiastic 16-18 year old students currently studying at Harrogate College visited the event to chat to employers and gain advice on how they could achieve their goals as well as gaining an insight into a range of different companies.
Staff members from Harrogate College also had the opportunity to make links with further employers, as an opportunity to enhance their courses with work experience placements, guest speakers and trips.
“We had a super day at Careers Fest, thank you to all the employers who attended to offer our students great advice and guidance. It’s fantastic to have the support of businesses that are so integral to our community, our students left feeling inspired!” – Sylvie Parnaby, Student Services Team Leader
Other employers who attended the event included CareMark, RAF, St Michael’s Hospice, National Citizenship Service, Vida Health Care, Disability Action, Careers Advice from Harrogate College, HCUK Training and Higher Education at Harrogate College.
Jeanette Nielson from Belzona said: “Thank you for inviting us, it was well worth it in our opinion. We had a lot of interest in our company and the students were all lovely and very keen. Many thanks to the tutors who encouraged them to attend – that really helped. Please let us know when you are running a similar event as we would like to come again.”
