A Harrogate College Media Make Up student has claimed first prize at the National Hairdressing Federation Competition and The Red Rose Open Championships 2017 at Blackpool Winter Gardens on Monday 13th March.
Olivia Kendle, in her second year of studying Hair and Media Makeup at Harrogate College, won the Drag and Burlesque category, for her glamourous entry with model and fellow student Ashley Wood. A requirement of the look was that the hair style was the main feature, but the entire look was just as important.
Ashley wore a bright purple mane with pink balayage, striking smoky eyes and a sparkling white and silver dress to complete the look, before strutting his stuff on the dance floor.
“We had a fantastic time at the NHF Competition; it was a very long day but so worth it. I took my time over every single brush stroke and it really paid off, I’m over the moon to have won first place!” – Olivia Kendle
“What an amazing result! It’s also great news for Harrogate and a fabulous achievement for Olivia and Ashley” – Debra Forsythe-Conroy
Harrogate College students also entered the Bridal and Make Up competitions and did extremely well, gaining a wealth of experience from the day.
“Congratulations to everyone who took part and a huge thank you to the staff who organised and entered the students and have been working with them over the coming months/weeks. A fabulous achievement but also an excellent opportunity for the students and food for thought for our progressing students and what they could achieve next year! – Helen Garnham, Senior Curriculum Lead
