Eleanor Newby began her studies at Harrogate College on the Level 2 Health and Social Care course, before continuing on to study Level 2 Early Years, with a view to beginning a career in the sector.
“I’d like to become an Early Years Practitioner, working towards becoming a Teaching Assistant then a teacher.” – Eleanor Newby
As part of her Early Years programme, Eleanor had to complete a variety of work placements; one of which was gained with Brackenfield School in Harrogate, an independent, co-educational day school for children aged two to eleven years.
“Working in a private school is very different from past placements; it’s interesting to see the structured learning starting at an earlier age. This has encouraged me to continue with my own studies, and makes me want to want to find out more about how children learn.”
Eleanor impressed her employer so much that she secured a full time job with the school, graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and is now undertaking a Level 3 Apprenticeship through HCUK Training. Brackenfield School has also offered Eleanor training for SENCO as an additional string to her bow.
“After coming to Harrogate College I am more confident and knowledgeable as the tutors made lessons easy and fun. They were very practical and I liked the way the lessons were structured along with flexible learning. Completing my Level 2 Early Years course was difficult, but I feel I have accomplished something!”
