Harrogate Borough Council seeks out art work from Fine Art students

Harrogate Borough Council has launched a competition for artists to submit pieces that could be displayed inside the new Council Civic Centre in Harrogate.

Fine Art degree students Tom Ransom, Fiona Campbell, Wendy Barrington and Guy Brady are all in the running to have their artwork selected by members of the judging panel.

The HBC judging panel included the Mayor of Harrogate Councillor Nick Brown, Dave Morland, Principal Architect for the Civic Centre from Farrell and Clark, Andrew Mortimer, Principal Design Coordinator for the Civic Centre from Harry Fairclough Construction, Karen Southworth, Access and Learning Manager at the Mercer Art Gallery and Alison Wilson, Principal Improvement and Development Officer.

The group of Fine Art students pitched their art work to the judging panel, in their top floor studio at Harrogate College, which enjoys rolling views of the Yorkshire Showground.

“We’re keeping our fingers crossed that a variety of artwork from the students will be selected to be displayed in the new council building; it’s a fantastic opportunity for the students to pitch their thought processes and artwork.”- Dr Annabel Smith, Fine Art and Fashion lecturer.

Artwork submitted by Harrogate College’s Fine Art students included ordinance survey contour lines of Swaledale, litho print work exploring the intelligence and behaviour of ravens, ceramic work inspired by a theme of boundaries and pen and ink work encapsulating a variety of seasonal landscapes and experiences.

Good luck to all of the students who entered the competition!
